While there are a lot of great things to be said about the Fitbit Charge 4, it may be a bit odd for some. The fitness tracker, and many others for that matter, lack a dedicated Power Button to turn the device on and off. Instead of using a dedicated button, Fitbit leaves you with just one option in order to turn on Fitbit Charge 4 in the event that it turns itself off.
How to Turn On Fitbit Charge 4
If you’ve just received your Fitbit Charge 4 and this is the first time using it, the tracker will turn on after you plug-in and connect the charging cable. Pressing and holding the button won’t actually do anything the first time that you take the Charge 4 out of the box.
Instead of using a traditional button as can be found on other Fitbit’s, the Charge 4 uses an inductive button on the left. This means that the Charge 4 registers a “press” when you close the electric circuit with your finger. The indentation acts as a guide so that you put your finger in the right place.
How to Restart Fitbit Charge 4
From time to time, you’re going to want to restart the Charge 4 for various reasons. Maybe your notifications are not syncing properly, or maybe you are having issues with the workout data being tracked. Nothing knocks out the cobwebs better than a good ole’ fashioned restart. There are a couple of ways you can do so.
- Open the Settings app on your Fitbit.
- Tap About.
- Select Reboot Device.
But what if your Charge 4 is unresponsive and you need to perform a “hard” reboot? Well, this is a little bit more intensive and requires the use of your Charge 4’s charger. Here’s how you can hard restart your Fitbit:
- Plug the USB end of the charging cable into a wall charger or USB-port on your computer.
- Clip the other end of the charger to the back of the Charge 4.
- Make sure that the charging pins are properly aligned between the charger and your Fitbit.
- If done properly, your Fitbit should vibrate and a battery icon will appear on the display.
- Press and hold the button on the side for eight seconds.
- Release the button.
- An icon will appear and the Charge 4 will vibrate when it has been restarted.
Conclusion
The Fitbit Charge 4 is arguably the most popular option out of Fitbit’s lineup, combining the best fitness tracking along with extra features. In fact, it’s helped Fitbit fine-tune the different metrics and sensors so that we can continue to see improvements in other Fitbit devices. I had a charge 4 for 3 years and it worked great until I broke it. I got a new one and it went dead and never worked again after only 4 months. I will never buy another fit bit again.
So my charge4 went dark. I restarted it and it vibrates but no screen and no sync to my app. Any other thoughts? Past warranty. I was just thinking fitbit had solved its glitch problems but this died on mme .
I just got my fitbit today and synced it to my phone but the device only says I need to download app which I already did.. I’m so confused and don’t know what I should do. HELP!!!
I received the Fitbit -4 from my Ins company and I have not been able to get it to come on. I need to lose weight and this was supposed to help. HAHA what good is it going to do if you cant even get it to turn on. Very disappointing. Kathy Petty.
My Fitbit charge 4 won’t display the correct time and date, even though it is Bluetooth connected to my iPhone..
My charge 4 vibrates every few minutes when I am running, although it is not set to notify me on labs or distance or time. I cannot figure out why or make it stop. I know sometimes the GPS signal drops, even when there is no obvious reason for that. I am too irritated by it to stop and look at it when I am trying to get a workout in. The interference! It is distracting almost to the point of counterproductive.
I am still getting used to it – a bit puzzled sometimes it suddenly shows a message to pay using the wallet when I did not plan to buy anything – and the main notification of steps etc could be found immediately without restarting – a bit frustrating
Bought Charge 4 for my wife as a replacement for her Samsung Gear Fit. Not even a year and it’s not working. Just a blank screen and a vibration every now and then when I try to turn it on. Very disappointed on this product.
I just got my Fitbit charge 4 (this is my third fitbit, I love them) thank heavens I got the warranty. I can not get it to even work the first time or connect to my phone app.. Very disappointed.
Disappointing charge 4 device it worked fine for two months and now won’t connect to my iPhone. I have tried numerous ways to reconnect with no avail. Seems it is an issue with the device but FitBit not fixing. I have reconnected my charge 3 which is working fine. Guess I need to return the new device. As I say disappointing
I can’t turn on my charge 4. It just randomly turned itself off and I have tried all the tips. It is fully charged and vibrates when I touch the side bar. I had a faint smiley face but otherwise it just has a blank screen. Any advise please as it’s only 8 months old. Thanks
Not really. It beeps at me and I have a very faint smiley face and nothing else and then goes dark again.
How do you Open the Settings app on your Fitbit.? is it on your phone’s dashboard? I couldn’t find it.
