Having a VR headset is awesome, but unless you can play 24/7, you’ll also need a place to keep it safe. Particularly when it comes to the potential of light or sun damage to the lenses, a good carry case can keep you safe. There are lots of different cases out there, not all of which are up to the task of keeping your headset safe.
Whether you’re travelling with your Quest 2 or you just want to keep it away from kids or pets, here are some of the best VR carry cases you can buy!
Key Features
- Mesh bag, lens protection pad, 2x velcro cable ties included
- Carry handle
- Fits Elite Strap
Specifications
- 10.8 x 8.9 x 6.1 inches
- 1lb weight
- Includes extras
This small case is one of the lighter options that has enough space to fit the Elite strap. While it can be quite tight to get the Elite battery strap in, the regular Elite strap fits just fine – and if you are looking for a smaller, space-saving carry case, this is a good option.
The headset and controllers are each held in place with individual straps so that even if one part comes loose, the others are still contained with their own separate straps. The case opens and closes very easily, and while the case itself isn’t the most solid one you can find, its small size still provides good protection.
- The tight fit means that parts sit securely
- Comfortable to grip and carry
- Secure and mostly waterproof – at least against light rain etc
- Extremely tight fit with the Elite Battery strap
- Design is bland and not very stylish
Key Features
- Mesh bag, shoulder strap, 2x velcro cable ties
- Carry handle and shoulder strap
- Not suitable for Elite Strap
Specifications
- 15 x 10.9 x 5.1 inches
- 1.7lb weight
- Velvet interior
This carry case is pretty much middle-of-the-field when it comes to size, but offers solid protection against all sorts of bumps, drops, and other issues. It also has both a carry handle and a shoulder strap, making it a versatile option for almost any situation.
Inside, you can find some additional zipper pockets for other small items such as replacement batteries, or similar small things. Despite its relatively low price, the solidly built case has a nice velvet inside lining that will protect your headset from getting scratched even if something bumps the case.
- Sizeable, sturdy case with plenty of padding and protection
- Internal zipper pockets for accessories or small items
- Both handle and strap available for longer periods of carrying the case
- Heavy and rather bulky
- Not suitable for either the Elite or the Elite Battery straps
Key Features
- No included accessories
- Carry Handle
- Fits all versions of the Elite strap
Specifications
- 13.8 x 8.4 x 5.4 inches
- 1.1lb weight
- Branded accessory
The official branded case unsurprisingly matches the original headset plus the official Elite replacement straps. It’s a solid – if pricy – choice, and among the many options in the VR case market, it’s definitely a trustworthy choice. The case is both solid and more stylish than a lot of other options – the single issue it has is the zip, which isn’t as sturdy as the rest of the case is.
The grey felt material on the outside feels and looks better than you’d think, and the case manages to make do without any wasted space. That does come at the price of theoretical other pouches or storage options, but if all you want to store is your headset and controllers all by themselves, then the official carry case is a good choice.
- Branded accessory that naturally fits the Elite and Elite battery straps
- Compact design with decent protection and no wasted space
- Interesting style and material
- Doesn’t allow for any accessories or other things in the case
- Hard case with a soft zipper section can cause some issues if parts aren’t placed in properly
- No accessories or extra space
Key Features
- Strong foam layer inside
- Can be fitted with padlocks
- Extremely sturdy and secure
Specifications
- 16 x 14 x 6 inches
- 3.7lbs weight
- Extra-hard case
If standard cases aren’t secure enough for you, the Casematrix hard case is about the best you can hope for. Not only is it extremely solid and sturdy, but the entire inside space is also customisable and comes with a solid foam layer that has to be cut or ripped into shape. This means you can arrange the inside exactly as you’d like, which means that you can fit in other accessories if you’d like, or go for any sort of headset/controller arrangement you like.
The setup of the case does take some time, so the case isn’t immediately useable, but when it is ready, you can trust that your headset is about as safe as it can be. Compared to most other options, this case is also a lot more interesting-looking – and you can also add padlocks if you don’t feel your Quest 2 is safe enough in the carry case alone – or if you’re likely to check it in for a flight, for example!
- One of the safest and sturdiest cases on the market
- Additional security options such as padlocks
- Foam inside can be adjusted to fit additional items and accessories
- Very heavy and large
- The foam insert has to be cut/torn by hand, which takes time and can be done badly
